- Enjoys being an advocate for patients; they often don't get heard. Deborah enjoys feeling that she makes a difference in the lives of patients and family members.
- Social work is a unique profession and gives many different opportunities to help others.
- Negotiating and dealing with insurance companies.
- Also, in being a team member with physicians and other health professionals, she finds herself having to be "the bad guy" in breaking unfavorable news to the patient regarding what the insurance company will and will not cover. This frequently involves having to discharge patients sooner than is ideal. This role of "middleman" is most challenging.
