Thom has spent the past 27 years in credit risk management with money-center and regional banks. His experience covers products as diverse as second mortgages and credit cards, having participated in credit policy development as well as acquisition of entire portfolios. His resume reads like a “who’s who” of consumer and commercial lending; First Chicago; Bank One; GE Capital; and Bank of America.
The past 3 decades have seen the evolution of credit decisions from entirely judgmental (the three C’s), to statistically supported objective criteria and scoring algorithms. In progressively more responsible positions, Thom was able to implement scoring, analysis and witness the changing role of judgmental lending. But lending has not been his only focus. A former chairman of the GE Capital subsidiary responsible for consumer credit cards once referred to Thom as “The best marketer working in risk management.” regarding his ability to find marketing opportunities while managing credit quality.
Education has been a passion for Thom, as evidenced by the many people who he recruited and developed who are active and successful in consumer credit today. In two terms on the board of the Arizona Council on Economic Education he helped increase the exposure of young people to the importance of economic and financial decisions in their lives.
His company, ProManage LLC, was formed to provide support to small businesses who often have varied needs. ProManage has most recently developed a construction site safety training strategy for an industrial electric service installation company; a start-up agricultural products manufacturer and a steel fabrication shop. ProManage also acts on behalf of company management for general project oversight functions.
A sole proprietorship that preceeded ProManage provided practical solutions to credit management problems including credit scoring, collections, risk-marketing, portfolio analysis, underwriting and pricing through seminars in the essentials of risk management.
